Charlie Chan Collection:

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment brings back the legendary master of crime in the Charlie Chan Collection -- four beloved films making their DVD debut, and now available for the first time, newly remastered, as a single collection. Included are Shadows Over Chinatown, starring Sidney Toler in one of his last Chan films, plus Docks of New Orleans, Shanghai Chest, and The Golden Eye starring Roland Winters, the last actor to play the detective on film.
Writer Earl Derr Biggers created Charlie Chan, a fictional Chinese-American sleuth, in a series of printed tales beginning in 1923. As early as 1926, the first of more than 48 Charlie Chan films was put on the silver screen. Actor Warner Oland, born in Sweden, began a popular run for Fox in 1931 in Charlie Chan Carries On. After its success, Fox would produce 15 more Chan films starring Oland. Not surprisingly, the films became the most popular in 1930s China.
After Oland died, Sidney Toler, an American actor with Scottish roots, took on the Chan role. Toler starred in 22 Chan films, first for Fox and later for Monogram Studios. After Toler's death, Roland Winters became Chan in six more films. The character has also been featured frequently on radio, television and in the comics.

The Journey: Starring Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr

In 1956, a band of international refugees flee Budapest, escaping the bloodshed of the Hungarian uprising. Among them are Lady Diana Ashmore (Deborah Kerr) and her lover, Hungarian Paul Kedes (Jason Robards, Jr.), who is forced to hide both his nationality and the wound he suffered in a street battle. The frightened refugees are halted at the Austrian border by Soviet Major Surov (Yul Brynner). Surov finds himself drawn to Diana as he interrogates the refugees in a hunt for suspicious persons. If Paul is discovered, everyone’s life may be in danger. The Journey reunites Kerr and Brynner three years after they won acclaim in The King and I. Filmed on the Austro-Hungarian border by Anatole Litvak, this blend of Cold War thriller and human drama is “exciting…an absorbing romantic adventure…a taut and tearing account of a plausible border incident”

The Great Diamond Robbery: Starring Red Skelton

Red Skelton was already a presence on early TV, brining creations like Clem Kadiddlehopper and Freddie the Freeloader into millions of living rooms, when he made his last film for MGM, the studio that had been his movie home since 1940. The beloved funnyman portrays diamond cutter Ambrose C. Park (the middle initials stands for "Central") in The Great Diamond Robbery. Park is eager to demonstrate his talent to his employer by working on the rare Blue Goddess diamond. It's a delicate task. One mistake and the gem will be worthless. Two mistakes: it'll be worthlesser! But Park confidently takes on the job, accompanied by criminals who have convinced him they're his long-lose family and who secretly aim to steal the diamond after it's cut. Will Park find out he's being hoodwinked before it's too late? Most certainly. And that's when the antic finale begins...

Half A Hero: Starring Red Skelton

Audiences always roared with delight when Red Skelton went one-on-one with post-war life in The Yellow Cab Man, The Fuller Brush Man and other films. In Half a Hero, the legendary comic took on a slice of 20th-century Americana that still resonates today: the suburbs. Red plays Ben Dobson, a magazine writer whose boss approves of Ben because he lives in a cramped Manhattan apartment instead of "the slums of tomorrow": the 'burbs. So, of course, when Ben movies his family to a sprawling housing development, he struggles (hilariously_ to keep the fact a secret. Jean Hagen, a year after her iconic portrayal of the itsy-voiced screen siren in Singin' in the Rain, plays Ben's long-suffering wife, and singer Polly Bergen makes a guest appearance with a torrid nightclub-scene rendition of "Love."

Winner of three Academy Awards including Best Picture, Casablanca marks its 70th anniversary as a beloved favorite with so many bonuses that no matter how often you've seen it, this beautiful 70th Anniversary (Limited and Numbered) Edition looks like yet another beginning of a beautiful friendship with an unforgettable classic.

Night Watch:

Video Clip

Elizabeth Taylor ventured but once into the scarified world of Grande Dame Guignol, and Night Watch is the striking result. Taylor's matron in menace role is that of Ellen Wheeler, a lonely insomniac trapped in a loveless marriage and by an obsession with a creepy gothic manse next door. One night while indulging in her alcohol fueled ramblings, Ellen spots a corpse inside the vacant house. A corpse that resembles her deceased, two timing first husband...a corpse that no one else thinks exists. Adapted from a play by suspense mistress Lucille Fletcher (Sorry, Wrong Number, The Hitch-Hiker, Night Man), Night Watch re-teams Liz with her Butterfield 8 co-star Laurence Harvey, playing Ellen's emotionally distant second husband in one of his final film performances. Genre stalwart Billie Whitelaw rounds out the cast.

Reckless:

Video Clip

By 1935, every movie fan in the world knew Jean Harlow as both a blonde bombshell and a delightful comedienne. To expand her range, the studio gave her a dramatic role in Reckless – and Harlow was a hit. She plays musical star Mona Leslie, the bride of a champagne-stewed blueblood. When he blows his brains out, Mona is suspected of his murder, igniting media frenzy. The film is also notable for its Jerome Kern-Oscar Hammerstein title tune (Harlow, whose considerable skills didn’t extend beyond acting, was dubbed and body doubled in the musical numbers), plus a cast that includes Franchot Tone, Rosalind Russell, and as a hotshot promoter, William Powell, who would become the last love of Harlow’s tragically short life.

Housewife:

Video Clip

The pre-code tale of adultery that squeaked past the censors! Coming at the tail end of 1934, Housewife was released shortly before the imposition of the “Hays Code” would render its subject matter ‘verboten!’ This turgid melodrama finds modern bachelor girl Patricia Berkeley (Bette Davis) dueling it out with modern housewife Nan Reynolds (Ann Dvorak) for the affections and ministrations of Nan’s husband, William (George Brent). Ambitious office manager William finally succeeds in setting up shop for himself in the advertising biz thanks to help from copywriter Pat and ideas from housewife Nan. When his late nights working at the office with Pat turn into something else, Nan must decide if William is worth fighting for. That is, if Pat will let her. Davis is at her vamping, doe-eyed best as the jaded sophisticated Pat, a copywriter who knows how to spin the right line to lure a guy.

The George Sanders Saint Movie Collection  Video Clip

Many years before Roger Moore donned the halo of The Saint, George Sanders played Simon Templar in this series of five mysteries. Sanders had yet to cement his acting reputation playing the ultimate in cads, and brings his worldly air of charm, wit, and erudition to his portrayal of the debonair thief turned detective. Sander's mordant wit and cynicism lift the film series' banter up a level with its added bite. Ably supported by a great rotating cast of players, Sanders' The Saint helped set the standard for detective tales for decades to come. Five films, one great set, one greater value!
THE SAINT STRIKES BACK (1939) The Saint travels to San Francisco, to aid and abet a slain cop’s daughter turned criminal. Co-starring Wendy Barrie.
THE SAINT IN LONDON (1939) The Saint returns to London, only to become embroiled in a foreign currency scam. Co-starring Sally Gray.
THE SAINT'S DOUBLE TROUBLE (1940) Sanders does double duty, playing Templar and his mob boss look-alike. Co-starring Bela Lugosi.
THE SAINT TAKES OVER (1940) Templar works overtime to clear the name of his framed police inspector pal. Co-starring Jonathan Hale.
THE SAINT IN PALM SPRINGS (1941) Simon Templar must solve a murder mystery while acting as a courier for some very expensive stamps. Co-starring Paul Guilfoyle.

The Two Mrs. Carrolls

Matrimony means different things to different people. For temperamental artist Geoffrey Carroll, it means he’s in his element. And out of his mind. In their only screen pairing, two of film’s all-time greats star in a psychological thriller rife with pelting rain and pealing bells, blackmail and murder, calculated dread and an unnerving finale. Humphrey Bogart portrays Geoffrey, who’s making a habit of poisoning one wife and marrying another when the former no longer inspires his canvases. Barbara Stanwyck plays his current wife Sally, who puts two and two together and comes up with six – as in six feet under, the place she’ll be if she continues to accept the glass of milk Geoffrey regularly offers as a nightcap. Alexis Smith also stars as a predatory neighbor who becomes the object of Geoffrey’s thirst for feminine variety. Drink up, thriller fans!
